A New Spin on Motion

          
How hard would it be to stop a 20 tonne pumpkin rolling down a hill? How big a push would you need to start it rolling in the first place? And most importantly, how many pies would it make? The activities in this workshop will help you and your students answer these pressing questions about force and motion.

In this action-packed, playful workshop you will enter into the "spinny" world of tops. Starting from a simple design, teachers will build tops of various configurations using a variety of materials.

A New Spin on Motion covers a number of the learning outcomes in Grades 1, 3 and 5 Physical Science.

     This Engaging Science teacher workshop lasts approximately 90 minutes and teachers will leave with interesting ideas and hands-on activities to implement into the classroom. Each participant will receive a free copy of the A New Spin on Motion Playbook that is full of activities demonstrated in the workshop, along with additional activities, blackline masters and comprehensive explanations.
